Meeting Abstracts published in Retrovirology

Retrovirology has recently published the meeting's abstracts from the Fifth Dominique Dormont International Conference http://www.retrovirology.com/supplements/6/S1.  Other meetings that have published their abstracts in Retrovirology can be viewed at http://www.retrovirology.com/supplements/

Why should meetings publish their abstracts with Retrovirology?  First, not all colleagues can go to the meeting; and many who did not attend would like to view the abstracts of the presentations at the meeting.  Making your abstracts Open Access by publishing with Retrovirology captures a much wider audience than that reached by a subscription-based journal.  Second, published Retrovirology supplements are listed in PubMed, further broadening the visibiity of the abstracts.  Third, published supplements are permanently archived electronically.  Once a conference has been completed and the conference abstract book has been ditched, a few years later one can still return to the Retrovirology supplements site to find the abstract that one wishes to recall.

Brady-Grassmann-Harrington Retrovirology Award in Brazil

At the 14th International Retrovirology Association (IRA) Conference held in Salvador, Brazil, July 2009, Retrovirology renamed its biennial HTLV-award as the Brady - Grassmann - Harrington HTLV Prize.  This renaming was done in order to honor three esteemed HTLV-1 scientists who passed away recently (John Brady, Ralph Grassmann, and Bill Harrington).  The first Brady-Grassmann-Harrington HTLV Prize was presented to Carlos Brites.  Previous Retrovirology HTLV prizes presented at past IRA conferences have gone to Charles Bangham and Mitsuaki Yoshida.

Register and attend the Frontiers of Retrovirology conference, Sept 21 -23, Montpellier, France

Have you ever wanted an opportunity to go to a small conference with cutting edge speakers and be able to meet and talk to each of the speakers and for the speakers to get to know you?  Large meetings where speakers are inaccessible and disappear immediately after their talks may hold great ambience for speakers, but are definitely not wonderful venues for many attendees.

From September 21 – 23, 2009, in the beautiful south of France (Montpellier), Biomed Central and Retrovirology (supported in part by ANRS, Pasteur Institute, and IGH) will host the first annual Frontiers of Retrovirology meeting.  Organized in an intimate format with internationally renowned retrovirologists as speakers, Frontiers of Retrovirology promises to be a best-in-class conference for a limited number of registrants.

This is your chance to hear the speakers that you have always wanted to meet.  This is your opportunity to visit the south of France and to submit your abstract for either a platform or poster presentation.  To register for this meeting (before space is filled), to submit your abstract, and to see the speaker line-up, please visit http://www.frontiersofretrovirology.com/

Invitation from Carlos Brites to attend the 14th International Conference on Human Retrovirology, Brazil

On behalf of the organizing committee for the  International Conference of  Retrovirology Society-HTLV, we are pleased to invite researchers, physicians and all the professionals interested in the HTLV field to attend the meeting that will be held in Salvador, Brazil, 2-5 July, 2009. Salvador, “the city of joy” is one of the most beautiful cities in the country, with a varied range of attractions, and it is easily reached through non-stop flights departing from the main Brazilian cities, as well as from other large cities in the world. We expect to have a deep, exciting program, covering the most recent findings in basic science and clinical care of patients infected by HTLV. The meeting also will provide a unique opportunity to meet the leading researchers in that field, and discuss with them the recent advances obtained in the HTLV area. In addition, we expect to have an active participation of students from Brazil, Latin America, and other parts of the world. We will make efforts to provide some scholarships for students who cannot obtain other funding sources to attend the meeting.

The main information on the meeting will be available in the website (http://www.htlv2009.com.br/htlv2009/), which will be regularly updated, as soon as the details of the scientific program be defined.

We look forward to meet you in Salvador!

Antiviral Applications of RNA Interference

RESEARCH CONFERENCES

ESF-EMBO Symposium

Antiviral Applications of RNA Interference

Hotel Eden Roc, Sant Feliu de Guixols (Costa Brava)  Spain 5-10 April 2008

With support from

RNA interference (RNAi) is a promising new technology, which allows specific inhibition of gene expression. The conference will bring together leading biochemists, molecular biologists, virologists and clinical physicians to discuss the potential of RNAi as an antiviral tool for research and medical purposes. Only recently, the first clinical trials in humans to evaluate the safety profile of RNAi approaches have been initiated. The meeting will cover the most recent progress in the field by 22 invited presentations of internationally renowned researchers, complemented by shorter contributed oral presentations of young scientists and by poster presentations.

The focus will be on human pathogenic viruses, but new concepts originating from plant virology will also be included. Furthermore, micro RNAs play an important role in the interplay between viruses and their hosts and will therefore be covered. The symposium will be the first comprehensive meeting combining RNAi and antiviral research.
