Particle Physics Information Providers Summit

Last week I was at SLAC with a host of other 'information providers' in the field of particle physics and astrophysics - see the somewhat blurry poster above shot with my mobile phone. It was a fascinating few days and certianly opened my eyes to the unique nature of the relationship between libraries, major labs, publishers, societies and database providers. In other fields, relationships are somewhat strained (certinaly when it comes to publishers or societies who charge high subscription fees for their journals) - but due to the openess of communication and willingness of all parties to work together, things are very different in particle physics & astrophysics.

I won't give away too much about what was said as it is still to be made public yet, but there is a very good chance all parties will be working together in a very concrete way to satisfy the needs of researchers in the fields over the next few years. Stay tuned for more info.
