Three of my favourite things come together to form a unlikely story combining The Simpsons, high-energy physics and innovative use of language:
How a fake word from The Simpsons ended up in a perfectly cromulent string theory paper
SciAm Observations, JR Minkel - 30 July 2007
The good thing is that Minckel goes to interview the authors about their use of the word (embiggen) and goes into some depth about the subject matter of the paper too.
Just for the heck of it, here is a Youtube link of Homer experiencing the laws of physics in the extra (third!) dimension

The word may be innovative but the concept is nonsense. It has long been known that physics would be impossible in any dimension but 3+1 (a very boring result since it agrees with reality). For proof see my book
Our Almost Impossible Universe:
Why the laws of nature make the existence of humans extraordinarily unlikely
String theory and branes and such are not possible; they must be wrong. Does anyone in physics care about mathematics and experiment? Apparently not. For further information see my blog
