Aymar confirms delay to LHC start-up

One of the worst-kept secrets in science was confirmed last week when CERN Director General Robert Aymar confirmed that the Large Hadron Colilder will not start up until May 2008 - due in part to the well-publicised magnet failure in March of this year. Rumours of a functional LHC test for late 2007 were finally quashed with this news, but the experiment is still on course to be the biggest and best of its kind. Fingers will be crossed in Geneva that this delay doesn't give the Tevatron a chance to see the Higgs before then.
