No such thing as bad publicity?

Try telling that to Wiley, whose unbelievably heavy-handed treatment of Shelley Batts (scroll past the links to read their emails) couldn't be a better advertisement for open access. Had the work in question been published in an open access journal, then there would be no problem with reproducing figures, graphs and even the full-text of the article should Shelley have wanted to.

Coturnix is keeping a list of links to the story.

Bob Michaelson has already posted the story to PAMNET and concluded "Shame on Wiley!".

Bill Hooker puts it nicely in his pro-OA post about the matter: Every time a traditional publisher puts their foot in it, an angel gets its wings.

Mad Mike the Biologist was rather more forward in his categorisation of his blog post about it.
