PhysMath Central Blog

2 things happened this morning which made me look into the history of Jacksonville a little more (which is where I am for the APS meeting and to promote PhysMath Central!).
1 - I looked out the window of my hotel and saw that it looks big.
2 - thephysicsbabe discovered that Lynnard Skynnard comes from here!
So I did some of my own searching around and discovered that indeed JAX (as it seems to be known locally) is indeed big - in fact it is the largest city in terms of area in the contiguous US (841 sq. miles). But it is only the 14th largest in terms of population.
The first human inhabitants reached JAX (as it probably wasn't known then) 12000-16000 years ago.
The Main Street Bridge - which is right outside my window - reminds me of home.
The city flag is cool!
