Sixth International Congress on Vascular Dementia, Barcelona Spain November 19-22, 2009
Dear Friends,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee it is our pleasure to invite you to the Sixth International Congress on Vascular Dementia 2009, Barcelona, Spain, 19-22 November 2009.
This congress is a showcase for the discussion of new developments in the area of dementia with special attention to cerebrovascular diseases affecting cognition. During the congress we shall have the opportunity to deliberate on large and small brain vessel diseases and how they contribute to cognitive decline. We will discuss specific biological and psychological markers, of vascular dementia, and also the genetic factors involved. The overlap with Alzheimer’s disease will be a central issue, as will be the white matter changes frequently seen in patients with dementia.
While we are still lacking effective therapies for dementia in general, several new approaches will be presented and discussed.
Our CME accredited program features 4 Plenary sessions, 19 scientific symposia, 4 free communications sessions, 2 company sponsored symposia and of course a full schedule of poster presentations covering all aspects of vascular dementia.
In addition, we are delighted to include in this years program a ‘Bring Your Cases’ session on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 19:30; we hope you will participate.
Join us and 1100 professionals from 64 countries for this unique congress.
Looking forward to seeing you in Barcelona,
Yours sincerely,
James F. Toole

Postdoctoral position at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, Uppsala, Sweden
Applications are invited
for a postdoctoral position for work on the mechanisms that underlay the cooperation of hyaluronan-activated CD44 with growth factor
receptors. In particular we aim to
dissect the downstream signaling events whereby CD44
modulates the activation and specificity of growth factor receptors, including the
receptors for platelet-derived growth factor-b (PDGF) and transforming growth factor- b (TGF-b). We have identified CD44-associated proteins
that play key roles in the dynamic reorganization of
the actin cytoskeleton and cell proliferation. Currently,
these findings are followed up by functional analyses.
Requirements:
I seek a highly motivated post-doc with a strong
interest in fundamental mechanisms through which hyaluronan - CD44 - PDGFR/TGFRb interactions
affect tumor progression, to perform cancer research in a stimulating and
ambitious environment. Candidates should have a solid background in cell and
molecular biology.
Further
information can be obtained from Paraskevi Heldin (+46-18-160414).
Applications should
include curriculum vitae, list of publications and e-mail addresses of 2 reference persons and be send to Evi Heldin (Evi.Heldin@LICR.uu.se), Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, Uppsala
University, Biomedical Center, Box 595, S-751 24 Uppsala, Sweden.
