Chemistry Central Blog

It's time for the ACS National Meeting - back to Chicago!
The ACS National Meetings are always jam packed with interesting sessions and presentations ... too many in fact for any mere mortal to attend. But here are a few of what I hope will be the highlights, and that I'll be trying to attend (in between talking to delegates about Chemistry Central at Booth 226).
The ACS Presidential Events have a focus on sustainability this time round. Catherine T. ¿Katie¿ Hunt, President of ACS through 2007 has chosen the topic of Sustainability of Energy, Food and Water supply with 3 sessions
- Sustainability: A World View on Sunday, March 25
- Pressing Challenges and Technology Opportunities for a Sustainable Future on Monday, March 26
- Educating for Sustainability, also on Monday
Also co-sponsored by the President are sessions on
Realizing the Full Potential of Solar Energy Conversion through Basic Research in Chemistry and Biochemistry (Monday, all day)
Sustainability and Chemistry: Tomorrow's Challenge for Today's Students (Monday 9-10)
and
Going with the Flow: Water Sustainability: Past, Present, Future (Tuesday morning).
Aside from these, I will be trying to squeeze in some of the following:
CINF:
Chemistry Applications Involving Data Analysis and Visualization (Open databases, Visualization techniques)
The Evolving Network of Scientific Communication (Podcasting, Wikis, Google Scholar, Semantic Publishing)
Using Social Networking Tools to Teach Chemistry (RSS, Social Bookmarking, Blogging)
AGRO:
Agricultural Biomass, Biobased Products, and Biofuels. This is a huge session, over several days and broken into 5 topics
- Defining the challenges
- Process and Product Control
- Process Characterization
- Improving Bioproduct Design
- The Cellulosic Challenge
Structure and Dynamics at the Liquid-Liquid Interface
