Thematic series on Psychopharmacological research in pediatric populations
This
first thematic series from Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Mental
Health features four
articles covering recent developments in the controversial field of pediatric
psychopharmacology. The series on Psychopharmacological
research in paediatric populations links together topics originally
presented at the joint conference of the Berlin Brandenburg Academy of Science and European
Academy held in Berlin earlier this year.
The four articles approach the topic from various aspects. Benedetto Vitiello’s review highlights recent developments in the field of pediatric pharmacology research in the USA, while Philippe Auby looks at the research occurring in the field in the European Union and Birka Lehmann examines the European Union’s new regulatory standards for pediatric pharmacology. The series is completed by Jacinta Tan and Michael Koelch who present the ethical implications of pediatric pharmacology research and provide suggestions for improving the ethics of research in this field.
