Chris Murray heads up new Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation
Chris Murray, co-Editor-in-Chief of Population Health Metrics, and an expert in health evaluation has been appointed Director of the new Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington. The IHME has been set up using a $105 million gift from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as funding from the University of Washington. Its goal is to help guide international policymaking by providing high-quality data and analysis on health needs and outcomes, and assessing the performance of health programs.
Chris Murray has published a number of articles with BioMed Central, highlights of which include:

- From wealth to health: modelling the distribution of income per capita at the sub-national level using night-time light imagery
- Global patterns of healthy life expectancy in the year 2002
