BMC Medical Research Methodology celebrates 250 publications

BMC Medical Research Methodology has achieved its 250th publication. The journal has grown steadily since its launch in 2001 and publications have doubled in the last three years, a sign of the journal’s increasing reputation among medical methodologists.

BMC Medical Research Methodology is the seventh medical journal in the BMC series to reach the milestone of 250 publications.

The 250th article, 'The ratio of means method as an alternative to mean differences for analyzing continuous outcome variables in meta-analysis: A simulation study’ by Jan Friedrich and colleagues from the University of Toronto, presents a novel approach for pooling continuous outcomes in meta-analyses. The article has already been accessed over 1,000 times.

BMC Medical Research Methodology is grateful for Drs Friedrich, Adhikari and Beyene’s contribution to the journal.  Dr Beyene also acts as a statistical adviser for the BMC-series journals and, in that role, regularly provides his expert advice as a referee.

The journal editors would like to extend their appreciation to all of the authors and reviewers who have been involved with the journal over the last eight years. Our thanks also go to our Editorial Board members, whose involvement has been crucial to the journal’s sustained growth. Our international Editorial Board has played an active role in the peer review processes of submissions to the journal, and has also provided advice on editorial matters and other activities related to the development of the journal.

BMC Medical Research Methodology offers a venue for biomedical methodologists where they can share and disseminate their work and developments on approaches to healthcare research, including the design and reporting of clinical trials and statistical methods relevant to clinical research.

The journal’s Open Access model means that work published in the journal is accessible to readers immediately and free of charge. Open Access increases the visibility of research, as reflected by access counts and citations - the top ten most viewed articles have been accessed over 200,000 times, while articles published in the journal have been cited over 1,800 times. The journal is currently tracked by Thomson Scientific (ISI) and will receive its first impact factor in 2010.

If you are a researcher with an interest in the methodology of epidemiological research, clinical trials, systematic reviews or meta-analysis, we'd like to invite you to submit your next research article to the journal. If you have any questions about BMC Medical Research Methodology or if you would like to be involved in the journal as an author, reviewer, or Associate Editor, please do get in touch.
